Betty and Wilbur Davis State Park, New York

August 23rd, 2008

Last week we drove to New York to watch our grandson play in the “Field of Dreams” and visit with our grandsons.

We stayed in a log cabin at the Betty and Wilbur Davis State Park, New York, with our son and his family.  These log cabins are very nice, sleep 8 in three rooms.  They have a full kitchen and provide everything you need in the way of bedding and kitchen utensils.

The park contains two catch and release fishing ponds, one stocked mainly with large mouth bass and the other one stock with sunfish and large mouth bass.  We taught our three year and seven year old grandsons how to fish during our visit there.  It was extremely fun for them as the fish were very easy to catch.  We used worms and a cut up hot dog for bait when we ran out of the worms.

The boys loved it.  The fish were very active and you could see them swimming in the pond and attacking your bait.  The seven year old caught two 14″ bass and at least one hundred of the sunfish.  The three year old caught at least forty sunfish and wanted his picture taken with each one of them when we explained he couldn’t take them home with him.

He couldn’t use a fishing rod when he started but by the time the trip was over he was casting the line 40′-50′ in the direction he wanted it to go.  It was fun watching his excitement as he caught the fish.

The seven year old kept talking about what a great fish fry we could have had if we kept them.  The sunfish were all nice in size, almost all of them were the size of my hand or larger.

Both boys are hooked on fishing now.  They both told their parents about the fish they caught, and as true fishermen, the size of the fish grew with each telling.

When we left to return home they both wanted to know when we would return so we could go fishing again.

If you are in this area of New York and  have children or grandchildren I recommend this park to you.  We saw very few people besides ourselves but the fishing was tremendous fun for the grandsons.

Our Grandson plays in the Field of Dreams, Cooperstown, New York

August 21st, 2008

Our oldest grandson was invited to play on a team that was playing in one of the Field of Dreams weekly baseball tournaments and our son invited us to go with them on the trip.

Since we are always looking for any excuse to spend time with our four grandsons we accepted. Our son rented a log cabin at the Betty and Wilbur State Park in New York, which is another story.

The Field of Dreams brings in 96 teams each week and they have a series of games playing other teams, then they have a play off to determine the winner for that week.

Eric’s team was a composed of kids from his church who normally did not play together as a team so it was not expected they would win too many games but it would be a great experience for them. They won 50 % of the games and their play off game went into extra innings before they finally lost, 7-6, so they did quite well for themselves.

It was a fabulous experience for the kids and even more fun for the parents and grandparents who were there to support them. They not only played in the series of games but participated in a lot of team events in the area. They were able to see the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Soccer Hall of fame plus a lot of other local attractions.

This event is rather expensive but if your child is into baseball they will love the experience.

New York is a very beautiful state and is worth visiting just for the beauty of the state and the fishing.

Software Testing is a good career field.

July 14th, 2008

Technology has practically transformed all of our lives. It is single handedly responsible for many developments presently occurring in the world. Therefore, being a part of this industry would be one of the best things to get involved in. Although there are various fields you might choose to enter this sector, software testing is the one in highest demand.

The first thing you should be aware of is precisely what software testing is. Taking a class at one of the numerous software testing foundation organizations will definitely help you get a good idea about it.

Above all, you need to understand what is involved in software testing, so you can determine if it is truly right for you. The best way to gain knowledge about software testing is by taking a course through one of the software testing foundation organizations. Doing this will allow you to be as successful as possible.

Also, you should be aware of the tasks that are performed by a person who tests software. It is imperative that you know what is expected of the job before becoming a software tester. More information on other topics can be achieved by learning about software testing as well.

There are numerous advantages to enrolling in a software testing foundation course.  You will need to make certain that the course you enroll in offers a valid certificate at graduation that reflects the total time spent in study for software testing.  Once you have this certificate you will be favored over any other job applicant who lacks one.

When searching for a job as a software tester, this certificate will help you gain employment with a reputable software testing company. Because of this, it is preferable that prior to seeking a job as a software tester, you take a course on software testing.

You will most certainly find no difficulties in finding software testing foundation courses. There are a number of institutions that are ready to offer professional as well as educational courses on software testing. One of the many recognized courses for software testing is the ISTQB courses.

Again, finding an institution that will offer ISTQB recognized courses may well be the easiest part.  The most important result of the education is acquiring the legitimate certificate.   Once you have the certificate any employer will see you as a person who has been properly trained in software testing, and well qualified for employment in the field of software testing.

School Fund Raisers Ideas Center

July 10th, 2008

One of the functions I’m involved with is the various fund raisers held by the school my grandson attends. School budgets no longer have enough cash for the “extras” that make a school a fun place and many parents can’t afford to play for extra extracurricular activates at school. So the school uses volunteers to hold fund raisers to meet these expenses and allow all the children to participate.

One of the fastest growing money raising ideas, the  school cookie dough fundraiser has become increasingly popular over the last few years. It works well for lots of different groups- schools, churches, soccer teams, youth groups, etc.  So be sure to tell potential donors the specific reason for your cookie dough fund raiser. Example: “Our group is raising money to finance our trip to the annual soccer tournament.

One of the advantages of buying cookie dough is that your customers can thaw the dough and use only what they want and refreeze the tub whenever they want more So your cookie dough fund raising supporters just pop them in the oven for delicious cookies any time.

While browsing the web this morning I found a site that has many fund raising ideas for school projects. If your school uses fund raisers or if you are thinking about doing this you should visit this site.

Increase Response Rates for Direct Mail, Email and PPC Marketing

July 4th, 2008

I was surfing the web this morning and found an interesting site on using your web site for Direct Mail Marketing.

Normally we don’t or at least I didn’t think about using a web site to generate direct mail responses but thought of web sites as providing information, entertainment like this blog or direct selling from the web page.

So I spend a little time on the site reading what he had to say. You must provide him an email address to get to the content but that doesn’t bother me as I routinely provide it for hundreds of sites.

If you are into marketing and want to increase response rates for direct mail, email and PPC marketing I suggest you visit his web site. I’m not into any of these but I still found his site interesting.

I often spend around an hour a day, using Google’s “Get Lucky” search just to see what I can learn. I will often report the Gems I find here and I do recommend visiting this site for the information it provides, especially if you are into marketing from your web site.

Overseas jobs.

June 22nd, 2008

Have you ever thought about taking a job overseas?

I worked in S. Korea for three years and enjoyed it tremendously.  I still have a tremendous respect for Korea and it’s people gained from the three years I spend working and living among them.

I just discovered that many of the friends of my children are now working in S. Korea.  They are working in the school system teaching English.  It turns out there is quite a demand for English language teachers in  S.  Korea  as  there are many private languauge shools for students to learn English.

Many Korean students take English classes after their normal school hours to prepare for their future.

The schools provide a salary, a place to live and food for the teachers.  While the salary paid isn’t large by American standards, generally starting at $1000.00 per month, having all other expenses paid makes it an interesting proposition.

While it doesn’t talk about S. Korean jobs I found another site that talks about overseas jobs that you might wish to visit.

How To Achieve The Proper Golf Swing Technique

How To Achieve The Proper Golf Swing Technique

By Robert Green

Any good golfer would tell you that a proper golf swing technique is very important for the improvement of an amateurs game, or any golfers game for that matter.

This is why the majority of golfers lean towards their swing as the anchor point for the improvement of their game. Constantly trying to perfect the swing technique is a major element of overall game improvement.

To perfect your very own swing it is essential for you to begin to understand that their are many muscles involved in your body that work together to produce this motion.

All these muscles have to be in good working order and be able to work in harmony together throughout your swing. There are specific muscles that need to be attended to more than others to promote the correct golf swing technique.

Without the working together of these muscles, your golf swing will suffer greatly.

The main reason being that your mind cannot do all the work. Without the co-operation of these muscles, the perfect golf swing technique would be impossible. For a proper golf swing you need the all the body to be working together coherantly.

The only way possible to achieve this co-operation is to work on the movements involved in the muscles while performing a golf swing. The golf swing is naturally a difficult action, and to perform this correctly is very hard indeed. You will have to work on these muscles through proper golf swing exercises, not just any exercises, but ones that specificallt target the muscles the swing uses.

The exercises will help build up the strength in these muscles and will also increase the flexibility of them too. Once both the strength and flexibility of the muscles begin to develop, the more natural the golf swing will seem.

Robert Green is an avid golf enthusiast who’s life practically revolves around golf. He has personally taught over 500 beginner golfers how to play better golf, and has written and developed many golf tips for beginners over his time as a personal golf instructor.

My Sauna

June 4th, 2008

Everyone’s heard of a sauna or steam bath, but not many people really know how beneficial a sauna is– some people even think there may be no benefits at all. However, dry saunas and steam baths are very good for you and can help to treat several medical conditions. So, how did the sauna come about, and how
can they be beneficial to us. What exactly is a sauna anyway? Where did the sauna come from?

Saunas first originated in Finland, where they are an everyday occurrence. Most households have a sauna right in them. Whereas every family in America has a car, every family in Finland has a sauna; they’re simply part of the culture. It’s actually true that before modern hospitals, nurseries, and other public healthcare, Finnish women gave birth to their children in saunas, as it was a clean, sterile environment due to the heat. Before you learn about their benefits however, let’s take a closer look at
the two different kinds of saunas.

As mentioned earlier, there are two common types of sauna that are used both in Finland and around the world. The first type is the dry sauna. This sauna works through the placement and heating of special stones in an enclosed room, raising the temperature of the room. This type of sauna heats the air of the enclosed space, but doesn’t affect the humidity of the room. The other type of sauna, the steam sauna, utilizes the same approach of placing stones in an enclosed room, except that the stones are not heated. Instead, heated water is poured on the cooler rocks, creating steam within the room. This type of sauna not only heats the air, but also increases the humidity, which causes the human body to sweat more than it normally would.

You see, when your body is subjected to such high temperatures, you begin to perspire (that is to say, you begin to sweat), and perspiration causes the blood vessels to open up, thus providing a natural increase in circulation and thereby promoting healing. Additional benefits come in the form of stress relief–
saunas are very relaxing. Also, steam saunas specifically are known to improve respiratory ailments as well as all the benefits of a dry sauna. You can now see that saunas of both types are very beneficial to your physical and even mental health. However, please consult with your physician before deciding to go into a sauna because a few people with certain health problems may be putting themselves in danger.

We have Finland to thank for their wonderful addition to our lives. Whether using a dry or steam sauna, it is clear that they are both enjoyable as well as beneficial health wise. Often the simplest solution is the best, and that is wassaunas offer us, a comfortable easy way to battle different ailments. So sit back, relax and sweat away your problems, be they stress or health related!
